Home Start Family Support

Volunteering for Home-Start Doncaster

Who are Home-Start volunteers?

Our home-visiting volunteers are committed and caring people who offer their time freely.  They are usually parents themselves, or have parenting experience, and bring with them personal experience, skills and knowledge of the resources available within their local area.  They are friendly and approachable and can be relied upon and trusted by parents to listen without being judgemental and to respect the needs of each inidividual family.  Home-Start volunteers commit to visiting a family once a week for approximately two to three hours to offer support.  This may involve listening and talking with the family, or more practical support such as playing with the children, assisting getting out and about, finding out about local services etc.

All volunteers...

* Undertake a 9 week course of preparation to fully prepare them for their role.  The course may be accredited by the Open College Network if the volunteer wishes.

* Receive support from a designated Co-ordinator whilst they are supporting Home-Start families.

* Can access additional training and social events throughout the year.

* Receive out of pocket expenses incurred whilst volunteering for Home-Start Doncaster.
